Opening in 2011, Yuzu’s first location was at 1715 W Chicago and later on move to 1751 W. Chicago Ave. for expansion. Both locations was found by our loving owner Yut Vong.

Yut Vong started his career, not as a restaurant owner, but a political and economic journalist in Thailand. Upon his arrival to the United States and being in the food industry for 15 years plus. Yut's passions and career flipped a hundred and eighty degrees to the food service industry, creating the first set of sushi rolls and robata focusing on the young urban diners of Chicago. Although his aim was towards the “hipster” customers, Yuzu began to appeal more and more to all kind of clients including fine-dining.
With the help of our creative/operation director Trisha Bun with her experience in the restaurant business since 1997 and marketing skills, she saw the opportunity and started to develop enticing attractions, in which we could accommodate and appeal to all types of diners, focusing on high quality yet casual - entertainment-based restaurant. We wanted our customers to feel comfortable and be inspired by our creative sushi chefs’ mastery of top notch products with a conceptual focus on intuitive artwork.
We have been blessed to have Jim Polpiboon for our first mega drawing at 1715 W. Chicago Ave. Anna Velasquez as our external and interior designer for both of our Chicago locations. With a gifted by a talented young artist, Kai Huang, a graduate of the school of the art institute of Chicago. Kai and Trisha have come up with complex and exceptional laser cut anime art pieces on the brick wall.
As for our sushi chefs, they were only provided with a sauce color palette from our creative director Trisha Bun, and the rest is all up to them. They continuously amaze us with beautiful creations ranging from abstract designs to Chicago’s iconic skyline. We have become well known around the world for our elaborate and detailed plating presentation, displaying sushi in a brand new way, one that's not only aesthetically pleasing but exploding with the character in flavor as well. Yuzu prides itself in hiring only the most enthusiastic, creative, and passionate people to be a part of the Yuzu team, letting our employees shine by demonstrating their artistic talents and variety of valuable and personable skills.
